Financial Aid News 127: 8 Free Colleges With No Tuition
Student Financial Aid News
A short note – this is an excerpt from NASFAA President Dr. Philip Day:
I write you today with sad news. Confronted with significant challenges in balancing this year’s budget (FY 2008-09) and projected declines in revenues that will impact our 2009-10 budget, the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NASFAA) had to make some tough budgetary decisions yesterday to ensure that the association continues to achieve its goals, maintains an appropriate array of programs and services at an optimum level of quality, and remains fiscally stable regardless of the economic environment.
Unfortunately, this meant reducing NASFAA’s operating budget, which included laying off five valuable and dedicated staff in the areas of research, governmental relations, finance and accounting, and executive administration. I can’t express how hard these decisions have been. The NASFAA staff we let go yesterday have been here for years and have dedicated their lives to eliminating the financial barriers to higher education. I can’t say enough good things about them and they will truly be missed.
Commentary
No one is immune to this economic downturn, and my sympathies to those colleagues at NASFAA who had to depart. For those who don’t know, NASFAA is one of the governing bodies in the world of financial aid – many of the administrators and their staff at your respective colleges and universities are members of NASFAA and get a lot of their information from the NASFAA community.
