Students and parents have another new way to find colleges that fit their academic goals and budget, using net price calculators. The most comprehensive today is StudentAid.com’s personalized College Cost & Planning Report that provides a side-by-side aid eligibility and net price comparison of as many as 10 colleges at a time. The service is free to low-income students to encourage them to apply to colleges. Net price is becoming essential to college planning. All 6,800 colleges receiving federal funds must post a net price calculator on their Web sites by October 2011. It’s about time students and parents had comparison shopping power for one of the most expensive and important investments of their lives.
