As we celebrate Thanksgiving this year, please consider this super-easy leftovers tip: whatever you don’t need, whatever’s extra, please donate to a local food pantry, soup kitchen, or homeless shelter. Even just an extra can of cranberry sauce or can of coffee makes a difference, and it’s so easy to do.
Don’t know where the nearest one is? Use this Google Maps query. Go to maps.google.com and type:
food pantry near your town, your state / zip code
Example:
food pantry near 02169
food pantry near Quincy, MA
You might want to call ahead and ask …

Over dinner with Professor Mark Frydenberg of Bentley University, the topic came up about how new media could be used as part of a senior project. Here’s an idea I’d love to throw out to other college seniors and students to see what you think. We know new media is powerful. You have unparalleled access to some of the smartest people in the world, some of the most well connected. At the same time, as a college senior, you’re looking to do something to make your mark on the world …

Economic stimulus checks are rolling out beginning today across America. Over $150 billion will be distributed to American citizens. Every advertiser and company in America is rolling out a campaign to get you to spend your stimulus check with them, so I figured I’d throw my hat in the ring.
Each stimulus check more or less works out to $600 per working adult plus $300 per dependent child under 17. There are some variations, but that’s more or less the standard formula.
How should you spend your check?

Pay down some debt if …

After the shootings on April 16, 2007, I watched as communities formed and reformed in the aftermath of the tragedy in Blacksburg. One of the most impressive and touching efforts was the For Today We Are All Hokies A Cappella tribute CD, put together by college a cappella groups across the Commonwealth of Virginia. It’s a damn good CD – all of the groups are professional quality, and the CD is a worthy buy. Two disc set for $20, proceeds go to the Hokie Memorial Fund.
For Today We Are All …
