Feature Article: 5 Tips for Getting Student Loans

As we head into the warm summer months, many students choose to ignore their student loan needs, which leave them scrambling in the fall. Before you begin you're vacation, lets take a quick look at the process to make sure your all set.
1. Do your paperwork. All federal student loans like the Stafford loan require you to have filed your FAFSA. If you haven't done so, visit FAFSA form help.
2. Clean up your credit. Unlike the Stafford, PLUS and private student loans have credit requirements. Learn how to improve your credit score.
3. Determine who's paying. For Stafford loans, the student is the borrower and has responsibility for repaying the loan. For Parent PLUS loans, the parent is the borrower has responsibility to repay. For private student loans, the student is the borrower and the parent is usually the cosigner, so while the parent has some obligation if the student doesn't pay, it's still the student's obligation.
