A college degree is not the only path to success but “more than ever [it] is the surest path to a stable middle class life,” President Barack Obama told an audience of around 100 college presidents during a White House summit on education Thursday. “We are here for one purpose. We want to make sure more young people have a chance to earn a higher education,” Obama said during his remarks. “We want to restore the essential promise of opportunity and upward mobility that’s at the heart of America.” The summit focused on college affordability for all students but specifically highlighted the challenges that low-income students face.
