Debt Ceiling Lifted Through 2015, Brinksmanship Avoided

Late Tuesday night, by a vote of 221-201, the House of Representatives passed a bill to suspend the debt ceiling through March 2015, a reflection of fatigue within the Republican party over this type of fight, and an indication that they believed another such battle would be damaging heading into the mid-term elections. With the debt ceiling suspended, the Treasury Department is now able to borrow to the extent necessary to meet existing financial commitments authorized by Congress.
