20 February 2014 1 views No Comment

Feb. 21, 2014 – Consumer choice and transparency were the buzzwords of the day during Thursday’s negotiated rulemaking session, where negotiators discussed disbursements of Title IV credit balances. The panel collectively said institutions should continue to have the ability to offer students a variety of choices in how they receive their Title IV credit balances, including direct deposit, prepaid cards, debit cards, or traditional checks. However, many panelists expressed concern that students were not given their options in a transparent manner and urged the Department of Education to consider ways to improve this. The negotiators will meet today to discuss repeated coursework, and the definition of adverse credit history for PLUS loans.
