Duncan Praises Taggart, FSA Team; Miller Says SAFRA Vote Would Change Washington

4 March 2010 30 views No Comment

Secretary of Education Arne Duncan testified before the House Education and Labor Committee yesterday to discuss President Obama’s education agenda. The Student Aid and Fiscal Responsibility Act (SAFRA) was a hot topic during the hearing, and as expected, Duncan fielded questions about the proposed transition to 100 percent Direct Loans. He assured lawmakers that the switch could be made seamlessly, praising the “impeccable” execution of the Department of Education’s Federal Student Aid team so far and noting that Direct Lending volume has already doubled. Committee Chair George Miller said he hoped the Senate would act on SAFRA soon, saying its passage bill would show “we’re serious about changing Washington.”
