ED Official Says Schools Not Liable For Increased Origination Fees Until Systems Updated
As financial aid offices across the country prepare to send award letters for the upcoming school year, the widespread federal funding cuts put into place as a result of sequestration have left schools wondering what exactly they should be communicating to their students. Monday at NASFAA’s Legislative Symposium, chief operating officer for the U.S. Department of Education’s (ED) Office of Federal Student Aid, Jim Runcie, announced that schools should continue disbursing Direct Loans using the pre-sequester origination fee until further notice is provided by ED.
