FWS Funds Appear at Risk in Senate Jobs Bill

1 February 2010 1 views No Comment

On Friday, NASFAA and others from the higher education community met with Senate staff on the upcoming jobs bills that will be taken up by the Senate. The House already passed a jobs bill in December that included an additional $300 million in Federal Work-Study (FWS) funds, but instead of working on the House version, it appears that Democratic leaders in the Senate will unveil multiple jobs bills over an extended timeframe. When pressed about FWS funds in an upcoming jobs bill, Senate staffers said that while the program is popular in Congress and is a worthy cause, “odds are low” at this point that it would be included in the upcoming bills.
