Yesterday, the House Subcommittee on Higher Education and Workforce Training held a hearing entitled “Examining the Mismanagement of the Student Loan Rehabilitation Process.” The stated purpose of the hearing was to examine perceived shortcomings in the management of the loan rehabilitation process by the Department of Education (ED). The concerns expressed by Chairwoman Foxx (R-NC) included security breaches, inaccurate reporting of payment statuses and loan delinquencies, and delays in accessing the department’s default loan management website. These concerns and more were highlighted in a recently issued report from the Government Accountability Office (GAO).
