NASFAA Outlines Likely Student Loan Scenarios Institutions Could Face on July 1

2 March 2010 25 views No Comment

NASFAA’s Vice President of Public Policy and Advocacy Justin Draeger told leaders of regional and state aid associations on Monday that no one can be sure if the Student Aid and Fiscal Responsibility Act (SAFRA) will pass, but he outlined three likely scenarios schools could face on July 1. The first scenario would be Congress passing SAFRA (or similar legislation that eliminates FFELP) and all schools would be forced to transition to the Direct Loan Program. The second possible scenario would be Congress not passing SAFRA, but extending the Ensuring Continued Access to Student Loan Act (ECASLA). The third possible scenario would be Congress not passing SAFRA or extending ECASLA. Draeger also described how institutions will likely be effected by each scenario.
