I’m back in the States again after a three day journey to Toronto, Ontario, Canada and PodCamp Toronto. What an absolutely amazing event this was – PodCamp Toronto (PCT) raised the bar in so many ways for what a PodCamp can be.
- The energy of the crowd was eager and excited to learn
- The sessions and presenters were fantastic, top notch quality
- The lightning talks were equally amazing
- Lots of great conversations deep into the night
- Ryerson University stepped up and made it a venue to remember
- And last but not least, the organizers did a fantastic job!
A few highlights that stuck out in my mind:
- Mitch Joel’s talk about building your personal brand
- Timbits and coffee!
- John Wall is a vastly underestimated guy – he’s wicked smart on all things business
- Julien Smith is one of podcasting’s visionaries
- Chris Brogan is community. Not just a community developer, he is community.
- Uncle Seth rocks
- Great to see so many old friends from PodCamp Boston – Bryan Person, Mark and Bob, Leesa, Casey and Rudy and more
- Lots of new friends – Sonya Buyting, Michael Seaton, Donna Papacosta, Peter O’Connell, and so many more
Major props go out to the organizers who made this PodCamp one for the record books:
- Leesa Barnes of Podonomics – Organizer, Media Liaison.
- Jay Moonah of Uncle Seth and Online Music Marketing – Organizer, Event Logistics.
- Brent Morris of The Closet Geek Show – Organizer, Volunteer Liaison.
- Julien of the In Over Your Head hip hop podcast – Organizer, Tech Guru.
- Mitch Joel of Twist Image – Organizer, Publicity/Promotions.
Finally, I have say this – if I were a college student in Canada (a uni student to them), I couldn’t imagine why you’d want to go anywhere else except Ryerson University. What a fantastic school.

PodCamp Toronto 2007…
This took a little while to put up as I’m a bit behind…
Last weekend, The Learning Guys went to PodCamp Toronto 2007 at the Ryerson Communications Centre. The event was billed as “a 100% free, volunteer, sponsor-supported event. It i…
Oh, how I wish I could’ve made it to the deep-into-the-night conversations. I was there ’till the end at Podcasters Across Borders last year, but this time round I had a new wee li’l one to attend to. Maybe I’ll be off the hook for PAB ‘07! I hope to see you there Chris.
Hey, Chris, Podcamp Toronto was definitly richer from your presence. I am looking forward to listening to your sessions that I missed. You’re an amazingly talented guy!
Many thanks to you all for your kind words. Everything I’ve made is built on the lessons learned and work done by those before me, so please give thanks to each other for sharing what you’ve created, too.
I agree with Mitch on this – I think most people are still reeling from the sheer quantity and the audacity of the things you had to say. And I say ‘audacity’ in the sense that it was ground-breaking stuff for most of us; forcing a reflection and re-orientation.
Really fantastic. Consider me subscribed (- and I’m finished with my student loans).
Hey Chris,
My only regret was not having more time to hang out and hear you present. However, thank goodness for the PodCamp crew and Ryerson who recorded everything. Now Podcamp can come to me on my couch!
Hope to see you again soon.
Thanks for the kind words! But don’t blow my cover!
It was great to see you work your magic again Chris. Your willingness to share information is both appreciated and contagious. You rocked another PodCamp.
Hope to see you again soon, keep in touch!
I think your post should read Chris Penn ROCKED The PodCamp Toronto Weekend.
You know (and do) too much
Chris, it was so amazing that you made it. Having everyone was great of course, but having you, Brogan & Person from the original PodCamp crüe was particularly meaningful to me. It’s so terrific to help perpetuate this amazing thing you guys started.
And always, your sessions rocked! You’d better have presentation notes with URLs for all them or I’m totally screwed!
Thanks for coming to our town, see you soon my friend,
- J.
