Having only been with Edvisors for about 5months I haven't yet had the pleasure of putting together my own desk or working out of an attik(thank god) but I can say that the employees here do know their stuff. I mean before I came here I had about the same knowledge as every other college student or parent out there. I was shocked to find out how little I really knew and how much there was to learn. They have taught me so much in such a short time. I attribute that to patience and also informing me with the right information, which brings me to the following idea.....

My idea for the perfect logo came this past Christmas when our boss Joe bought a Mr. Potato Head for his secret santa. Having stared at it for the last few months it finally hit me that that would be the perfect logo for our company. Now I know we can't use the exact model but I was thinking something similar like a brain or a head. We could have this on our page and if possible you could click on it and it could talk. I thought that would be perfect because our company is very knowledgeable. Just a thought.....

Out of this whole long post you know the one thing that stuck in my head above it all? Two points:

1. The spiral narrow staircase
2. The putting your desk together.

Both of these could be leveraged into a powerful analogy and imagery.

Think about it. As a student nothing is easy about getting the money for college. You totally have to take a do it yourself attitude to get educated and creative to find the money you need. Climbing a narrow and seemingly difficult staircase to success.

There is something there. I need to noodle on it some more.

I've been thinking about the idea of branding a lot this week. Mostly because of you and CC talking about it so much. I'm wondering if I need some re-branding myself. Get out of my head Chris.

"Simplifying Financial Aid" is the feeling that I get. I like sticking with the Corinthian-style fonts, that adds to the "money" feeling, although I would lean more towards blue than green. You may also want to leverage some ivy covered buildings, something from downtown Quincy perhaps. Just some random thoughts...

This is all off-the-skull after a very long trip and very little sleep, but I want to write from my gut and that's all you get from this response:

The Student Loan Network as I understand it is all about treating your customers like friends. People don't do mean things to friends. People don't steer friends into really bad situations.

People share with their friends. People protect their friends. People try hard to give their friends the benefit of the doubt.

Educate them all you want, but I see the Student Loan Network (which I like MUCH better than Edvisors as a name) to be all about helping your friends find the good stuff.

I'll say this: I consider the site / network to be very information-heavy. That's a good thing because it makes me feel like I could learn whatever I wanted to in this particular field by surfing the related links... but there are so many of them, it could be perceived as daunting.

What about a more finely-tiered system of information unveiling, so the site experience becomes more personalized the deeper a visitor digs?

From a "who are we" perspective, I'd say there's a fine line to tread between being bastions of information and being authorities. Does your audience need you to be a reference or a guide? Do your opinions outweigh your facts or vice versa? That POV affects how you would position yourselves, I would think.

Polish it up and make it new! -- Good luck!
