Republican Leaders on the House Education & the Workforce Committee and Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions sent a letter to the Government Accountability Office (GAO) asking for an investigation of the federal government’s oversight of the Direct Loan program. The letter cites a growing number of complaints to suggest the Education Department (ED) does not have the capacity to run the program effectively.
