Senator Murray Introduces Bill Related to Homeless Youth and College Access
Senator Murray (D-WA) at the end of November officially introduced the Higher Education Access and Success for Homeless and Foster Youth Act. The provisions in the bill are similar to recommendations put forward by the National Association for the Education of Homeless Children and Youth (NAECHY). The proposed legislation is intended to help homeless and foster youth by removing barriers to financial aid, making college more affordable, and building supports for their college retention and success. It would also increase services to homeless and foster youth in TRIO and GEAR-UP college access programs.
